Russian Emergencies Ministry to Create Its Own Social Network

The Russian Emergencies Ministry together with the Fund for Advanced Study have announced plans for creating a special social network, which will allow its users to post all possible information about emergency situations and to contact with rescuers online.

      According to the Vedomosti daily newspaper, the new social network's users will be able to estimate independently the level of assumed threat and to post the message about it to free access. All such messages will be watched by rescuers in order to secure an efficient response to emergency situations.

      Reportedly, the new social network is to be named team112.ru. The project's start is planned on summer 2014. The Fund for Advanced Study is ready to appropriate about 200 million rubles for its development. The Russian Emergencies Ministry's departmental company has already opened a special laboratory with the staff of 30 people.

      The team112.ru social network is only one of the steps taken by the Russian Emergencies Ministry for a switch to a new united system of citizens' connection with emergency services. As a part of this, a new law about establishing of a unified telephone number for all emergency situations was passed on February 2013. According to it, the 112 number is expected to completely replace old numbers 01, 02, 03, 04 by 2017 year.
