Scientists that took part in biological experiments in the Russian Bion-M1 satellite, have appealed to the authorities to facilitate their continuation.
Experts have also urged all departments and organizations involved in space programs implementation to actively support and provide continuation of the research started in this spacecraft.
Scientists emphasize the uniqueness of the obtained data, which “will make an essential contribution to extraterrestrial biology” and emphasize that such research “is absolutely necessary” for decreasing astronauts’ risks and to ascertain successful space exploration. In particular, as a result of the conducted research they managed for the first time to obtain data on the impact of zero gravity on brain blood vessels, expression of several genes, backbone functions, an inner ear, and sperm motility.
It is a reminder that in the spring of this year the Russian Bion-M1 biosatellite made a month-long space flight. About one hundred various live organisms were onboard the satellite. A considerable number of bio objects were lost due to some onboard upsets; however some of the mice and all the geckoes survived.
