Deputies of the Urals city of Yekaterinburg have officially appointed Yevgeny Roizman, the recent mayoral election's winner, as a mayor at the first meeting of the city's freshly elected legislative assembly. According to its regulations, Roizman is now also a chairman of the assembly. His candidacy was approved by 22 of 23 deputies, except one Russian Communist Party's representative.
On the whole, there are 36 deputies in the city's assembly. A quorum is secured by two thirds of the staff - 24 deputies. The city's regulations also allows to hold a session with the so-called "small quorum", when over one half of the deputies should attend the meeting.
The session with the question about Roizman's appointment didn't see representatives from "Fair Russia" and "Russian Patriots" political parties, as they claim the recent assembly's elections to be forged, though they have no quarrel with Roizman's appointment.
Yevgeny Roizman won the mayoral elections in Yekaterinburg, which were held on September 8, with 33,25 percent of voters. Yakov Silin, a representative of the Kremlin "United Russia" political party has become only the second with 29,77 percent of supporters.
Yevgeny Roizman is one of the founders of "No Drugs in the City" rehabilitation centre. The centre has an immense popularity with common people, though it is often criticized for too harsh and even inhumane drug addiction treatment.
