Specialists of the Vector virology and biotechnology state research center are going to lunch production of a unique cancer diagnostics system.
The Vector centre is currently conducting system tests.
As its director Alexander Sergeyev says, the new development is a system for diagnostics of oncologic diseases at their initial stage and so will make it possible to early identify the location of a cancer tumor and remove it avoiding its metastasis over tissues and organs.
The test system works as follows: blood sample is drawn from the patient, put into test tubes, and then PCR-based diagnostics is carried out and changes in genes are found to determine the tumor type begins, the press center of the Koltsovo science town explains.
“It was known earlier that particular genes are related to tumor occurrence, but there was no awareness of the link between “changes in a gene or in genes and tumor type”. Now we know precisely where to look for a small tumor nub. If we find a cancer marker, we immediately define that it is, for example, lung cancer. So, we scan only the lungs instead of the entire body” - the press center explains the novelty of the Vector method.
According to the director of Vector, providing that there are necessary assets (20 to 30 million rubles) the system will be put into production in 2 years.
