The monument to the prominent Russian civil servant, local historian and geographer Pyotr Rychkov was opened in Orenburg in honor of the 270th anniversary of the city.
Rychkov (1712-1777), the first member-correspondent of the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Sciences and Arts, the author of many scientific papers, who glorified Orenburg Oblast, is called Orenburg`s Lomonosov for his extensive scientific work.
The bronze statue on a granite pedestal decorates the territory of the square in front of the third academic building of the Orenburg State University. The monument depicts the image of young Rychkov symbolizing the craving of the younger generation for scientific heights.
