Khakassia Reserve is Celebrating Its Birthday

14 years have passed since the establishment of the “Khakassia” Natural Reserve. This is the only reserve on the territory of the Republic of Khakassia.

It is a special protected natural area having the largest number of cluster (isolated) sections – 9 of them. The same number of clusters you can find only in “Uvs Nuur Basin” Reserve in Tuva, but the latter has the area 3 times larger than “Khakassia”.

The largest mineralized Khakassia lake, the Bele Lake, and the largest freshwater lake in the Republic - Lake Itkul – are located here. “Khakassia” is the first reserve that started to use innovative methods of recording and reporting of animals in its researches.
