First girls have joined people's volunteer squads, patrolling the streets of Saratov.
Four students of local universities had initiative to try their hands at public order protection. Nobody puts volunteers at risk. They patrol only when accompanied by law enforcement officers. Same as in the police, there is no gender segregation in people’s squads.
There are just 4 girls yet, but once there will be enough women, one cannot rule out the possibility of women-only patrols.
Saratov volunteers get paid hourly: 80 rubles – on a weekday, 120 rubles – on weekends and holidays. They are given a special uniform. After the duty ends, volunteer police helpers are dropped from house to house by service bus.
