A group of scientists from American institutes and private companies have devised a medicine for anthrax.
Almost all of these scientists come from Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Novosibirsk. At the same time the idea underlying this scientific project has purely Russian roots.
“Some time ago, when we were just starting our research on anthrax, we were lucky to establish cooperation with Vladimir Karginov, a former employee of the Novosibirsk State University, and then the scientific director of the Innovative Biologics small biotechnological company in Virginia. It was Doctor Karginov, who first suggested the idea of using modified cyclodextrins for blocking the anthrax channel”, - the scientist Ekaterina Nestorovich points out.
Presently anthrax is mostly treated by antibiotics, the remedy being efficient only at the early stages of the disease. The new ground-breaking medicine, however, is potent to help at the late stages of anthrax.
