This morning, on October 22, the Roerich Museum House in Angasolka Settlement in the Slyudyanka District has burned down.

Two halls of this house were exhibiting canvasses by the Renaissance foreign artists, whereas two others were dedicated to paintings by the outstanding artist, traveler and thinker Nicholas Roerich.

Fortunately, the exhibits survived the fire, since some of them were at an exhibition in Slyudyanka, and the remaining ones were rescued in time.

A fire train was operating at the emergency site. Thanks to efficient and harmonious work of firemen they managed to extinguish the fire, having prevented it from spreading to nearby wooden houses and forest under strong wind. Thus, they staved off the danger of damaging the nature and ecology of Lake Baikal.

Annually hundreds of tourists visited the Roerich Museum House on the shore of Lake Baikal. Altogether three houses – a hotel, the Roerich Family Museum House and a building under construction – have burned down. Presently investigators and experts are establishing the reasons that caused the incident and the amount of damage.
