On November 7 the Museum of Moscow will open the exhibition Old Estates of New Moscow to present ten estates that badly need urgent reconstruction.
Today these sites are in a deplorable condition. However, the museum will show not only the ruins, but will also offer some particular steps on the way of bringing the estates back to life.
Out of four tens of historical addresses of Moscow they managed to find no more than a half only.
The territories of lots of them have been built up, whereas three estate houses – in Filimonki, Krekshina and Staronikolsky – burned down almost completely in recent years. Nevertheless, there are joyful examples as well: new museums in Shchapovo and Ostafyev, sanatoria in Voronov and Valuyev, and Christian orthodox farmsteads and schools in Milyukov and Troitsk-na-Obitsa.
The visitors of the exhibition in the Museum of Moscow will be told about new, sometimes unexpected functions that the old estates can perform. For example, these sites can be transformed into hotels and schools, galleries and rehabilitation centers, restaurants and festival centers, parks and family entertainment centres.
The future of the old estates of New Moscow will be discussed in the framework of expert round tables and seminars.
