Alexander Veledinsky’s film The Geographer Drank His Globe Away has taken the grand prize of the film festival in the German city of Cottbus.
This has been reported at the official website of the festival.
The film director Alexander Veledinsky has been awarded 20 thousand euro. The jury has also distinguished another Russian movie - The Major directed by Yury Bykov who has won the best direction prize. The award money amounts to 7.5 thousand euro.
In June, 2013 Veledinsky’s film won the grand prize of the Russian Kinotavr Film Festival, and was recognized the best movie of the Odessa Film Festival in August.
The movie The Geographer Drank His Globe Away based on the same-name book by Alexey Ivanov tells about the life of a Perm dweller Victor Sluzhkin, who has got a job at school. Initially he was not on very good terms with pupils, however subsequently they developed mutual sympathy. Along with the main subject line the film shows difficult relations of the main character (played by Konstantin Khabensky) with his friends and family.
