An exhibition of works by the artist and sculptor Aladdin Garunov will be held in the New Museum in St. Petersburg.
Twice the winner of the Kandinsky award, the author of works kept in collections of the State Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Aladdin Garunov will present the exposition Metaphors of Overcomable Distances.
Well-known for his scenes on Muslim themes, the artist works a lot materials existing across cultures: those of the patriarchal East and progressive West.
In his art practice Aladdin Garunov combines rubber, carpets, worn footwear, fur, footprints, video installations and photographic materials.
The artist is first of all interested not in the religious aspect of culture, but the condition of a modern person in the rigid industrial world that is full of misunderstanding.
In his Aladdin Garunov brings together two worlds: the technically developed West and the conservative mystical East. In exhibitions rubber as a metaphorical prototype of oil empires neighbors Dagestan carpets and video installations.
The exposition in the New Museum is another attempt to stop and remember one’s own roots and the world harmony of eastern and western cultures.
The exhibition will run from November 22, 2013 till February 9, 2014.
