Invitation for Dinner. Cookbook of the Russian Museum will be held in Saint Petersburg from November 27 to February 2, 2014.

      The topic of food was extremely popular among Russian artists of the 18th – 21st centuries, however, it never became the subject for an exhibition.

      The extensive Russian Museum collection with several hundred art pieces on the “gastronomic” subject makes it possible to unfold this subject fully within a separate exhibition.

      The exposition will include large imperial table sets of the 18th – 19th centuries and arts and crafts pieces by modern artists, paintings and drawings depicting various feasts from modest meals to luxurious feasts, recipes of Russian cuisine and numerous menus of aristocratic dinners, which were decorated by big masters as peculiar works of art reflecting stylistics of different epochs.

      The exhibition will present more than 300 works from the collection of the Russian Museum, private collections and artists’ studios.
