New German authorities support simplification of visa regime with Russia.

      New German officials intend to strive for a simplified visa regime with Russia. It is mentioned in the coalition agreement between the Chancellor Angela Merkel's block “The Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union” and the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

      "We seek for further liberalization of the visa regime for businessmen, scientists, civil society representatives and students," the document says. In addition, the agreement states the need for more in-depth cooperation with Russia on the international level and through civil society. The Social Democratic Party of Germany plans to submit the draft document on "party referendum." In case of approval of the agreement, the coalition in Germany will be formed and the new government will take an oath before the end of December. “The Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union” does not intend to hold a similar "referendum".
