The Telegraph: The Russian Economy Needs A Regime Change

The Telegraph supposes that the Russian economy needs a regime change.

The Russian economy is in a parlous state and needs a radical changes to the political regime, The Telegraph reports. Russia’s economy has been extremely weak and it fell into technical recession. The inclusion of Russia in the group of fast-growing countries gave a distorted impression of the dynamism of Russia’s economy. The author asserts strong growth in the past reflected a series of one-off factors that cannot be repeated. Besides that, according to the publication, the problems in the political and legal systems seriously hamper the inflow of investments, both foreign and domestic.

Rise in energy prices may contribute to temporary improvement of situation, experts say. But if there are no other changes, this improvement will be just for a period of time. Lowering energy prices will compound Russia’s difficulties. Without radical changes in the political regime reforms will reach a deadlock.
