The Federal Penitentiary Service/FSIN/of Russia is creating the Museum of History of the Russian Prison System.
The museum will be opened in 2015 at the historically well-known Butyrka prison, but unlike the museum of Butyrka itself it will be accessible to general public.
The museum will be dedicated to the long history of criminal and executive system of Russia since Yaroslav the Wise. The exposition in its 6 halls will be divided according to the periods of development of the penal system: in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, including the reform of 1879, when a uniform system was established.
The Jewish Center and the Tolerance Museum in Moscow are going to provide help related to the use of modern museum technologies.
