Russian scientists proposed “revolutionary” changes in the methods of oil and gas extraction. They proposed to use a laser instead of a drill; the new method does not destroy the rock, but melts it.

      According to the director of the “Bereg” research and production company Aleksandr Lenetsky, this method is fundamentally new and has no analogues in the world. This makes it possible to extract oil and gas from the formation almost in full. The laser is capable of passing through the rock at an angle giving the possibility to get to hard-to-reach places. Besides, the extraction rate will increase by 3-4 times. This will revive the already closed deposits, where the oil cannot be extracted by the old methods.

      The analyst of “Investkafe” Grigory Birge considers the prospects of the new method to be “very interesting”. Its inventors promise to increase the recoverability up to 90%, while the oil recovery factor of many deposits today does not exceed 30-40 percent. The laser method will help to avoid environmental pollution, and this factor can significantly facilitate its popularization.
