New Family In Safari Park of Gelendzhik: a Panther, a Leopard And Two Kittens

A panther and a leopard of the Gelendzhik zoo have babies.

An unusual family appeared in the Safari Park of Gelendzhik: a panther, a leopard and two kittens. The leopard and the panther liked each other and, as a result, gave birth to two charming kittens looking a lot like their father due to their spotted fur. The park staff say that the young “panteropards” may blacken in the process of growing up. The kittens will soon be moved from the quarantine to the winter cage, for the time being their mother and the staff of the Safari Park take care of them. The kittens are gradually accustomed to meat. The father-leopard is not allowed to see the children. The birth of offspring from such a pair is a unique event: leopards rarely reproduce in captivity. Nevertheless, the newborn kittens are not a cross breed between two species, because their mother-panther is also a leopard. A special name was given to these big cats because of their black color.

Safari Park is not the Zoo, but the first unique animal rehabilitation centre on the Black Sea coast.  With the area of 156 hectares Safari Park is located on one of the slopes of the Markotkhsky Ridge. Animals are of the exceptional importance here and are kept in comfortable semi-free conditions — spacious open-air cages. Each inhabitant of Safari Park found last chance for life here as each of them has its own complicated story.
