The film director Nikolay Dostal has returned 30 million rubles allocated by the Cinema Fund for making the film Monk and Demon.
The director has taken the decision to give money back since he had failed to involve private investors in financing, and the money provided by state was not enough for production of the movie.
30 million rubles made only 16.6 percent of the planned movie budget. The film crew tried to reduce the budget and brought it down to 4 million dollars (131 million rubles) and yet the required amount could not be provided.
The movie company Orthodox Encyclopedia known for the films Priest by the film director Vladimir Khotinenko and The Horde by Andrey Proshkin was supposed to undertake the film production. Yury Arabov’s script tells about a novitiate (to be played by Alexander Yatsenko) who meets a demon named Legion (Georgy Fetisov).
