Calls for Partition of the Country are Now Criminal Offence in Russia

The law making it a criminal offence to call for partition of Russia has been approved by the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the second and in the third readings.

Public calls for taking actions towards partition of Russia are now subject to criminal liability. A penalty to the amount of 300 thousand rubles or the salary or other income for the period of up to two years will be levied, or the offender will be punished by compulsory community service for a period of up to 300 hours, or imprisonment for up to three years.

The same actions by means of mass media or Internet are offered to be punished with compulsory service for up to 480 hours, or imprisonment for a period of up to five years.
