Arkhyz Ski resort in Karachay-Cherkessia opens for tourists.
This year the ski season in Arkhyz resort starts December 20, although officially it will start operating in 2014. Currently, all construction and installation works at first starting complex of Arkhyz have been completed. Facilities included in the first stage are ready to operate.
Activities related to the systems checkup at the first township as well as staffs training are currently being carried out. Snowmaking equipment is already working in the resort. In anticipation of the ski season it is necessary to inspect all issues related to the functioning of the external infrastructure, transport and security. For the further development, the resort needs to become more accessible for country residents. Permanent commuter route Vladikavkaz – Àrhiz; Zelenchukskaya – Arkhyz city route and the route connecting Kislovodsk and Arkhyz resorts are already open.
Arkhyz is located in a mountainous region in the vicinity of the eponymous aul sitting at an altitude of 1,450 meters in the valley of the Bolshoi Zelenchuk river, in the Republic of Karachay–Cherkessia, Greater Caucasus, Russia, about 70 km inland from the Black Sea shore. The modern village was founded in 1923 near the confluence of the Arkhyz and Psysh rivers. The elevation of the surrounding mountains is more than 3,000 meters above the sea.
