The new exhibition complex Museums of the Moscow Kremlin will be opened in Srednie Torgovye Ryady (5, Red Square) by 2016.
According to the project plans, the new centre will house all the exhibits presently kept in underground storages of the Kremlin. By different estimates, around 80 percent of all the historical treasures are subject to terrifying conditions: the rarities are stored on shelves attached over pipes and communication lines. All these exhibits will be displayed in the new museum, for the Muscovites and tourists to get an opportunity to see them.
A large amount of works has already been carried out in Srednie Torgovys Ryady. The reconstruction works on outer historical part of the building have been completed and fit-out works are under way.
These buildings were used by various government institutions and services from 1917. They were repeatedly reconstructed, with facades repainted. Now the restorers have brought them back to their historical look.
