A monument to the opera singer Fyodor Shalyapin will be set up in the square near the Kirov Drama Regional Theatre in 2014.
It will be a composition depicting the singer and the characters that he played. The monument will appear in Kirov in autumn 2014. It is going to be financed from extrabudgetary funds.
Fyodor Shalyapin (1 February, 1873 - April 12, 1938) was an illustrious opera singer and drama actor. From the age of 12 he participated in performances of drama troupes, initially as a supernumerary and then as an actor. In 1894 he sang in stage productions in the Petersburg country garden Arkadia. He took part in Savva Mamontov's Moscow Private Opera from 1896 and was a soloist on stages of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters from 1899. Shalyapin was also a success in Milan La Scala (1901), Rome (1904), Monte-Carlo (1905), Berlin (1907), New York (1908), Paris (1908).
From 1922 he lived in emigration. Fyodor Shalyapin died of leukemia in Paris. In 1984 his ashes were shifted to the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
