Museum on History of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Siberia has been opened in Tobolsk, the Tyumen Region.
It is housed in the memorial building of the Hierarchal House located in St. Sophia yard of the Tobolsk Kremlin. The museum is a joint project of the Tobolsk History and Architecture Memorial Estate and the Tobolsk and Tyumen Metropolitanate with support of the administration of the Tyumen Region.
The permanent exposition History of Christianity in Siberia presents an illustrated chronicle of the birth, formation and advancement of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Siberia since arrival of Yermak’s troop at Siberia till nowadays. The visitors will see unique items, rarities, and relics of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The exposition is ingenious for the fact that it displays spiritual art objects, most of which were restored by means of the most up-to-date multimedia technologies. Courageous creative solutions and conceptual developments give a full picture of the importance of this theme in the history of Tobolsk as the religious capital of the Russian Trans-Urals.
