The post-graduate of the High Tech Physics Institute Dmitry Prokopyev has been awarded the Nobel Medal.
The decision on awarding him was made by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. The young scientist has been conferred for his contribution into development of inventions.
Dmitry Prokopyev took the medal thanks to three patents. Two inventions are connected with breast cancer diagnostics: matrix detectors made with the use of gallium arsenide semiconductor will make it possible to reduce the radiation dose during check-up and detect breast cancer at the earliest stage.
According to the scientist, he is the first one to suggest this technical solution. The third invention is a nuclear battery, which can be used for dozens of years without recharging it. The discovery is most significant for medicine, space exploration and military.
Last year these inventions gained Dmitry Prokopyev a medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
