The exhibition Photographers of Russia before 1917 will run in Nizhny Novgorod till February 3.
The exposition has been opened in the Russian Museum of Photography today.
Visitors will see formats of salon photography, such as parlour portrait and visiting card photo.
“The museum has never before displayed this extensive part of its funds to the general public” - the exhibition complex reports.
The exhibits are pre-revolutionary pictures made in a photographer's studios in Moscow, Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Uglich, Simferopol, Perm, Tashkent, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Yalta, Astrakhan, Vladivostok, Chita and other cities.
“The photo cards created in the strict atmosphere of old photo salons, where casual pictures were ruled out, still draw the eye” -the museum staff assume.
