Doctor Aybolit Monument to be Set up in Irkutsk

Monument to Doctor Aybolit, the famous character of children's poems by Korney Chukovsky will be set up near the municipal veterinary station in Irkutsk.

It is possible that the doctor will be accompanied with other sculptures in the near future.

The sculptor Natalya Bakut, who is known to the city dwellers as the author of the Once sculpture is working on the new monument.

According to experts, the image of the fairy tale doctor, who can treat anything, has been made very recognizable: Aybolit is holding a cat in his arms and a dog is sitting next to him. The sculptor Natalya Bakut assumes that some other characters may appear around the kids’ favourite doctor.

The monument 2 meters high will be cast of bronze in Ulan-Ude and is planned to be set up in May.
