All the film screenings at the Khudozhestvenny movie theater on January 30 will be free.

This will be the last day of its work before closing for reconstruction. Free invitations will be available at the cinema box-office.

The movie theater is planned to be opened upon reconstruction in the middle of 2015. The historical facade of the building will be restored, the attic will be turned into an exhibition hall and three new cinema halls will be equipped. The foyer of the movie theater will become multimedia. A wide stage for holding concerts will appear in the big hall.

Besides, the movie theater will be equipped with ramps for handicapped viewers.

The Khudozhestvenny movie theater was opened in the Arbat Square in 1909 and originally seated 400 people. In 1912-1913 the building was reconstructed according to the project of the architect Fedor Schechtel, and its capacity was increased to 900 seats.

It was on screen of the Khudozhestvenny Movie Theatre that premieres of the first Russian sound film, the first color film, and Sergey Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin took place.
