A monument to Mikhail Gorshenyov, the frontman of the famous Russian punk band Korol i Shut will be set up in Voronezh.

The city authorities have approved its installation, though the project stirred great controversy. The sculpture will most probably appear in the Kominternovsky District this year.

The monument will be not depict the musician as such, but will be a peculiar art object. The approved sculpture project is a stylized guitar with a music book. However, the approval was not unanimous: only 8 out of 14 members of the Cultural Heritage Committee voted in its favour.

The main reason for disagreements is the scandalous fame of the musician, who called himself an alcoholic, an anarchist and a dropout. Mikhail Gorshenyov died shortly before his 40th anniversary in July last year. Now his Voronezh fans are fundraising for his monument.
