Archeologists Find Adornment of the Legendary Founder of Konigsberg

Archaeological works carried out in the former Sackheim district of Konigsberg go on yielding most interesting finds.

Among the recent ones there came an unusual fibula - a medieval dress fastener that was also a decoration.

Unlike the already known analogs, the metal round clasp is made of separate images: boards with coats of arms, alternated with smaller plates and a cross depicted on them.  That looks especially intriguingly, if one takes into account the fact that one of the coats of arms on the fibula is apparently the eagle of Ottokar II of Bohemia. It was this king of the Czech Republic (called Bohemia back then) who founded Konigsberg in the 13th century.

One more item never seen by archeologists before is a figurine of a man with a music instrument, which is supposedly a lute. Judging by its shape, it could be part of a larger bas-relief once.

Other rare artifacts include a battleaxe, parts of a lamellar armor and a fragment of a fingered gauntlet.
