On Saturday Petersburg police was reported on disappearance of a monument in memory of the Siege of Leningrad.
The monument disappeared from the memorial military and historical complex Nevsky Pyatachok in the Kirovsk District of the Leningrad Region.
Later it turned out that the monument had been dismantled by the district authorities due to its illegal setup.
Nevertheless, having learned about the situation, the Leningrad Region governor Alexander Drozdenko instructed the monument to be fixed up on its former place. “On these days sacred for every St. Petersburg dweller a conflict triggered by illegal actions of Petersburg deputies would be intolerable” - Mr. Drozdenko pointed out.
The initiators of the monument will have to carry out all necessary formal procedures through the due process of law very soon. If they fail the monument will have to be dismantled again.
It is a reminder that January 27, 2014 marked the 70th anniversary since liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade.
