Mikhail Nesterov Monument to be Set up in Ufa

A monument to the outstanding Russian artist Mikhail Nesterov will be set up in front of the Bashkir Nesterov State Art Museum in Ufa.

      The competition for the project monument project has been announced by the press service of the Bashkiria Republic Ministry of Culture.

      Till the age of twelve Mikhail Nesterov lived in Ufa, where he studied in a gymnasium. Following the order of his father the future artist moved to Moscow in 1874.

      The creativity of Mikhail Nesterov, one of the great Russian artists, represents alive link of times, continuity of the 19th century and modern art.

      By the time of October revolution the artist was already well-known in Russia and Europe as the founder of peculiar picturesque realm, a person, whose name was associated with persistent quest for moral ideal. In the last twenty years of his life Mikhail Nesterov was a prominent portraitist, and moreover the acknowledged leader of the Soviet portrait school.
