Military Police Officially Introduced in Russia

From today onwards there is military police officially established in Russia.

The RF president Vladimir Putin has signed the law on establishing Military Police Corps and ensuring its activity. The military police is supposed to secure order in armed forces, as well as defend military personnel and civilian employees whenever necessary.

The military police, in particular, will be engaged in investigations of crimes committed by the military, provide military discipline and military confinement, body-guard the administration of the RF Ministry of Defense, participate in counter-terrorist operations, meet the challenge of terminating international terrorist activity.

The relevant bill on establishing the new agency was offered by the RF MOD in October, 2012. In November the same year the first deputy chief of the head department of military police - the major general Andrey Nechayev - declared that the military police was already founded in Russia and started carrying out its duties, but two more years were required for completing its formalization.
