Scandal is unfolding around the unique Shukhov Tower, which experts say to be in a state of emergency.
The Moscow City Mayor’s Office has declared that it is not going to restore the creation by the architect Vladimir Shukhov at its own expense.
Moscow is not ready to take the historical Shukhov TV Tower in its present condition onto the books, the head of Moscow Urban Property Department Vladimir Yefimov stated to the Interfax news agency. According to him, the tower is in a breakdown state and big investment is required in order to fix it.
The head of Moscow Cultural Heritage Department Alexander Kibovsky emphasizes that the tower is federal property, therefore the task of its restoration has to be resolved on this level and at the expense of federal funds.
It is a reminder that the deputy head of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications Alexey Volin earlier pinpointed to the accident condition of this symbol of the Russian radio and TV broadcasting. The official noted that the Shukhovsky Tower could be preserved only by way of dismantling it temporarily.
For one year long the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications has been trying to negotiate with the Ministry of Culture and Moscow authorities with the purpose of handing this historical heritage over to them, but to no avail. It is known that the Ministry of Culture opposes the dismantling of the tower.
