The Proun Gallery in Moscow has opened the Sport Cult exhibition inspired by the Olympic Games.
The exposition presents visual history of sports through the prism of Russian art and design of the 1920s-1960s. It shows sport as inspiration for artists.
The exhibits demonstrate various spheres of Soviet art, design and culture: sportswear and fabrics, painting and graphic art, posters and photos, sculpture and newsreel of sports parades and opening ceremonies of sporting events.
The visitors will see works created in different periods by the well-known constructivists (G. Klutsis, V. Stepanova, A. Rodchenko), recognized muralists (V. Lebedev, A. Deyneka, V. Kovrigin, M. Manizer, E. Yanson-Manizer, A. Samokhvalov, O. Tsadkin, A. Leporskaya) and designers (M. Lukyanov, B. Uspensky, O. Savostyuk, V. Volikov). The process of creating art works and design objects will also be tackled: one can see original sketches of fabrics and clothes, gouache originals of posters and sketches of sculptures.
The exhibition will take place till March 30.
