February 19 will see the opening of the exhibition Shu Kubo. Images of Japan in Kirie Pictures in the Oriental Museum.
Shu Kubo is a modern Japanese artist of high level, comparable only to a few people in all of Japan. Blending precision of lines with courageous concepts of his works, the artist enjoys popularity among a great number of art admirers.
Kirie is a traditional art technique that has remained since ancient times: a picture is cut with an art knife on a special sort of Japanese paper. Shu Kubo creates his original style of Kirie art by introducing new elements into the traditional technique.
The exhibition presents more than 50 works selected from the artist’s collection of over 300 works. The visitors will learn more about natural and climatic features of the Japanese archipelago and the traditional life of Japanese.
The exhibition will run from February 19 to March 05, 2014.
