The men's cross-country skiing relay race ended with the victory of the Swedish team. The Russian team took silver and the French team won bronze, on Saturday, February 16.
The Swedish relay team, Lars Nelson, Daniel Richardson, Johan Olsson and Marcus Hellner maintained a lead throughout the entire race and only shared their advantage with the Fins in the second 10km leg of the race. The Finnish athletes lost their positions in the third leg and the Sweden got ahead.
Marcus Hellner, silver medalist at the Olympic Games in Sochi in skiathlon, finished with the flag with a result of 1 hour, 28 minutes and 42 seconds.
The competition for the silver medal was also fierce. At the beginning, Finnish and French teams followed the Sweden, but the Russian skiers, Dmitriy Yaparov, Alexandr Bessmertnykh, Alexander Legkov and Maxim Vylegzhanin. gradually gaining ground, came nearer to the Olympic podium. That silver medal has become the 16th OLympic trophey won by Russian athletes in Sochi.
