A museum on the war in Afghanistan and other local conflicts that the Soviet and Russian armies took part in will be opened at Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow by 2016.
It is a reminder that 25 years ago, on February 15, 1989, the Soviet armies were disengaged from the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. This campaign was the bloodiest and longest of the conflicts that the Soviet troops were enmeshed into during peacetime: more than 15 thousand Russian soldiers were killed and over 50 thousand people were wounded in the war.
On Saturday, February 15, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War opened the exhibition True to Traditions of the Feat presenting archival documents, maps and photos, as well as paraphernalia of the soldiers that took part in Afghanistan operations.
