The Academic Orchestra of Dmitry Shostakovitch St.-Petersburg Philharmonics conducted by the People’ Artists of the USSR Yuri Temirkanov goes on tour to Germany today. It is the first European tour of the Orchestra this year.
Tomorrow the Russian musicians will give the first performance for the German audience. Maestro Temirkanov will conduct concerts in Braunsweig, Hamburg, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Leipzig, Koln, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart.
The tour will finish at the famous Amsterdam Concertgebau (the Netherlands).
The major part of the program consists of the Russian classics: compositions by Tchaikovsky, Prokofyev and Shostakovitch.
Foreign music will be represented with the Violin Concerto and the Fourth Symphony by Mendelssohn, piano concerts by Shuman and Brahms and the Second Suite from Ravel’s Ballet Daphnis and Chloe.
World known musicians such as pianists Eliso Virsaladze (Russia) and Helen Grimo (France) and violinist Arabella Steinbacher (Germany) have been invited for the tour.
