Communists of Achinsk town in the Krasnoyarsk Territory intend to set up a monument to Joseph Stalin for the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
This was reported by the first secretary of Achinsk town CPRF committee, the deputy of the regional legislative assembly Vladimir Sedov to the RIA Novosti news agency on Friday.
Joseph Stalin spent in Achinsk the last two months of his Turukhansk exile till March, 1917. In the Soviet era a museum was organized in the house where he had stayed in his exile. After exposure of the Stalin personality cult in the 1950s the museum was closed and all the funds were transferred to the Achinsk Museum of Local Lore.
“Now the memory of Stalin in Achinsk has been almost lost: the museum of local lore has an exposition dedicated to him, but there is no monument. Ordinary communists of Achinsk got an initiative of setting up his monument for the 70th anniversary since the Victory Day. It is bad when our school pupils do not even know who ran the country in the years of World War II, and who that Stalin was after all. That will not do” - Vladimir Sedov pointed out.
