Illustrious Russian Writer Supports Euromaidan Protests

The most mysterious Russian writer Viktor Pelevin now has his social media avatar looking as a black square with a blue-yellow strip symbolizing the Ukrainian flag.

Internet users have started putting such avatars as a token of supporting the victims of the Ukrainian acts of state.

“Write me in Russian, because I know only one phrase in Ukrainian: “Men stay in Maidan!”- Viktor Pelevin asked his numerous Ukrainian-language friends. In a few hours the writer added: “To our and your freedom!”

It should be noted that people started posting such avatars in social networks about two months ago as a sign of supporting the victims of demonstration crackdowns in November, 2013.

Bitter confrontations between opponents of the authorities in power and militiamen took place again on February 18. As the Ukraine Ministry of Health reports, 28 people were lost and 445 people got injured during the street riots in Kiev. 287 people out of those injured are kept in hospitals.
