US-born Vic Wild wins 10th gold for Russia by a tenth of second in men's snowboard parallel slalom at Rosa Khutor’s Extreme Park. You can watch his performance here. It’s his second gold here at the Sochi Games where he earlier finished first in men’s parallel giant slalom.

Wild got Russian citizenship after marrying Alyona Zavarzina, a snowboarder who won bronze in Sochi. He wasn’t considered a promising star back home, but proved that love can be a great inspiration. You can read about the couple on our Hall of Fame page at Russia-IC.

Russia secures second spot in the total medal count, with 10 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals, matching the results of the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Games.

If Russian athletes win three more medals, Team Russia would set a historic record for the nation’s appearance in Winter Olympic Games.

On Friday, Korean-born Viktor An won gold in men's 500m individual race and later helped the national team outskate Team USA in the 5,000m relay.

There will be a lot of talk on whether Russia can celebrate these medals as its own but history knows many cases when athletes moved to other countries to enjoy success. It’s their wish to get atop the podium and it’s their choice that has to be respected.

If you want to make it to the closing ceremony, you can use Russia-IC services to book your flight and accommodation in Sochi. The Games will be followed by the Paralympics so you still have the time to make the arrangements.
