Olga Glazyrina has been suspended from the Russian female biathlon team, apparently for her rude remarks on the social media that targeted the team, says Sovetsky Sport.
She is also expected to undergo a surgery on her shoulder, a long-time injury which as he claimed undermined her chances for any medal.
Glazyrina also complained about her coach, German Wolfgang Pichler who is expected to leave the Russian team after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Biathlon is very popular in Russia, and many felt he’s failed to revive the glory of the Russian women in this sport. Tge team was split and some of the biathletes trained under Vladimir Korolkevich.
In an interview with Sovetsky Sport, the German coach deflected the criticism, pointing out the Russian female team took silver in the 4*6km relay.
Yana Romanova and Ekaterina Shumilova struggled to get qualified, no-one thought they were promising, but they got silver, he told Sovetsky Sport.
Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire and the Nets owner, is the president of the Russian Biathlon Federation. He’s been under a lot of pressure to lick the team into shape but has been unable to deliver. Also, just ahead of the Olympics, several female biathletes were disqualified over doping, including Irina Starykh.
