Biathletes lead Russia to the top of the medal table, securing 11th gold for the host nation.

      Alexey Volkov, Evgeny Ustyugov, Dmitry Malyshko, Anton Shipulin have written their names in the history of Russian sports.

      In a 4*7.5km relay race, they beat Norway, Germany and Austria to prove their strength to thousands of fans at the stands and millions watching the thrilling final at home.

      Earlier, Russian women won silver in the relay. Yana Romanova, Olga Zaitseva, Yekaterina Shumilova and Olga Vilukhina finished just after Ukraine who won its first gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

      Biathlon is very popular in Russia, and a lot of effort went into reviving the glory of the Russian athletes in this sport.

      Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire and the president of the Russian Biathlon Federation, has been under a lot of pressure to lick the team into shape for the 2014 Sochi Games.

      A lot of criticism was aimed at German coach Wolfgang Pichler who was hired to offer a new level of training for women.
