Following a successful and stunning performance in the men’s relay, biathlete Anton Shipulin regrets he didn’t win gold in sprint.
On Saturday, Russian biathletes lead the country to the top of the medal table, securing 11th gold for the host nation.
Alexey Volkov, Evgeny Ustyugov, Dmitry Malyshko, Anton Shipulin have written their names in the history of Russian sports.
In a 4*7.5km relay race, they beat Norway, Germany and Austria to prove their strength to thousands of fans at the stands and millions watching the thrilling final at home.
“I knew I was stronger than my rivals on the final lap. I knew I was going to be strong, I was going to win,’ he told Sovetsky Sport.
With 32 medals, Russia sets a new all-time record of medal haul, beating Soviet achievements. And it’s not the end, with Alexander Zubkov-led sled having a good chance of another gold in a four-man bobsleigh race. His team leads after two heats.
