The Petersburg Legislative Assembly deputy Vitaly Milonov has sent an open letter to the RF Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky with a request to ban a concert of the Ukrainian band Okean Elzy in Petersburg.
Mr. Milonov asked Vladimir Medinsky to include the band’s frontman Vakarchuk into the “black list” of people undesirable for entering Russia as “an active and irreconcilable opponent of the Russian state”, - the letter reads.
At the same time the deputy notes that Okean Elzy “is a talented and powerful music band. However, if a musician chooses to be engaged in political activism instead of creativity, he has to realize that his political activity may have certain consequences”.
The concert in St. Petersburg is planned to take place in the Ledovy Palace on March 31 within the tour in support of the band’s new album The Earth.
Vitaly Milonov is a zealous fighter for moral and orthodox values. In particular, he angrily and consistently opposes gay propaganda and accuses Madonna and Lady Gaga of obscene behavior. The targets for his criticism also include fast food, hookah smoking in public places, Charles Darwin with his evolutionary theory, “blasphemous” films by the Russian director Alexander Sokurov and many other things.
