On February 27 the Multimedia Art Museum opens an exhibition of one of the first Petersburg photographers Ivan Bianchi (1811-1893).
The exhibition will be held as part of the Photo Biennale 2014.
Ivan Bianchi was into photography art long before it became widespread: he captured the most important images and sights of St. Petersburg and Moscow of the mid 19th century. The photographer was equally interested in cityscapes and interiors, as well as portraits of the nobility. It is thanks to him, for example, that the historical outlook of the Peter and Paul Cathedral is known to us.
In addition, Ivan Bianchi can be considered the forerunner of modern photojournalism. He was one of the first photographers to spotlight events of national importance in the second half of the 19th century.
The exhibition will run till March 23.
