The 22nd Olympic Winter Games in Sochi closed.
The Olympic rings were dismantled at the airport, railway stations and in the center of Sochi. There are none left in the Olympic Park, in the Olympic villages, in Mountain and Coastal clusters and in Krasnaya Polyana. They were replaced with Paralympic emblem – three hemispheres of blue, red and green colors. The Polar Bear, Leopard and Hare on Navaginsky street were replaced by Sochi Paralympic characters: Ray of Light and Snowflake. They were instaled in front of Adler District administration as well.
Besides that, the banners with Olympic symbols in Sochi are being replaced with Paralympic ones. The emblem of the Paralympic movement is composed of blue, red and green hemispheres encircled around a central point, symbolizing three "agitos" ("to set in motion, to move" in Latin) and standing for Mind, Body and Spirit. The symbol is intended to reflect the role of the International Paralympic Committee in uniting disabled athletes, who inspire and delight the world with their achievements. For the first time, this logo was used in 2006 at the Games in Turin. Sochi Paralympic mascots – The Ray of Light and Snowflake – were selected by Paralympic athletes. The Ray of Light was designed by 1963 born Natalia Balashova from Moscow, but the Snowflake's author is 2002 born Anna Zhilinskaya from St. Petersburg. The images took part in the competition of Olympics mascots and eventually became the symbols of the Paralympic Games.
