Luciano Spalletti has been fired from his post as the coach of Zenit St. Petesburg.
Training the team since 2009, he won the Premier League title twice, along with the Russian Cup and the Super Cup.
The reasons for the resignation have not been officially announced but many experts have condemned Spalletti’s policies saying they have precipitated a collapse of the team.
Only this year, Zenit St. Petesburg was crushed by Borussia Dortmund in a home game and later failed to score in a match against outsider Tom that ended in a 0-0 draw that lost Zenit its leadership in the Premier League.
The club has been plagued with behind the scenes scandals, with many players forced to leave the team.
Sergey Semak will manage the club until a replacement is found.
The news was broken by the Sport-Express newspaper and later confirmed by the club’s management.
