Karelia Is One Of the Leaders Of Domestic Tourism

The Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Karelia for Tourism reported that Karelia takes third place among most attractive destinations for domestic tourists.

According to Valery Kiryanov, last year the republic was visited by almost 1.9 million people. However, only one third of all guests of Karelia or around 600,000 people are considered to be so-called organized tourists and sightseers. Valery Kiryanov also noted that since the second half of last year Karelia actively participates in the implementation of the federal long-term targeted program "Development of domestic tourism in the Russian Federation."

Today, they work on the issue of unification of Zaonezhskaya and Priladojskaya reference areas of tourism development into one tourist and recreation cluster South Karelia. The first outcome of the program implementation will be the first international festival of boating in the museum of Kizhi, which is going to be held next summer. It will be a complex event with a press tour and round tables covered in various media, exhibitions, etc. For the first time a tourist event in the Republic of Karelia is supported at the federal, quite tangible level. 5 million rubles and extra 1.5 million for promotion were allocated for tourism development program in 2014, "News–Karelia" reports.
